Optimising Gelation Capabilities of Biocompatible Peptide Gels for Cell Culture/Delivery Applications

Lead Participant: BIOGELX LIMITED

Abstract

Biogelx is a company that offers peptide-based gels that mimic the function of a range of tissues. Our current products are specifically aimed at cell biologists who wish to grow cells in the laboratory. The company has identified the need to now create peptide gels that are suitable for cell culture and delivery into the body. This project will investigate the fundamental mechanics of gel formation, identifying new peptide starting materials that both are capable of forming gels and are suitable for cell culture/delivery into the body. If this product is sucessfully produced, a platform will be offered that can both be used to improve cell growth to whatever level the customer requires and maintain it in the necessary environmet during delivery to the area of need in the body. This product has potential applications in wound healing, stroke recovery and cell therapy.
