Effective measurement of ozone within food MAP and CAP applications

Lead Participant: ONNIC INTERNATIONAL LTD

Abstract

Onnic International and Swansea Innovation have joined forces to develop ozone analysing/monitoring instrumentation, which will be designed to operate effectively within food production envronmnts and be capable of of measuring ozone across a relatively wide range from concentrations in small volume samples but also at very low levels, with discrimination, sensitivity and accuracy and will work effectively in supporting ozone promoted MA and CA packaged food applications.
The food industry internationally is not served at all well with suitable ozone analysis/monitorinfg instrumentation. What there is, has been primarily designed for other applications, principally enviromental monitoring.
This project seeks to remedy this situation, certainly in part, by the development of commercialy viable and food industry attractive instrumentation, which will allow the more general use of ozone, not only as a sanitising and bulk storage ethylene control agent , but also to help deliver a quality maintained, extended shelf-life for a wide range retailed foodstuffs and as a consequence contribute significantly to reducing food wastage and improved sustainablity.
