Rapid Prototyping and Analysis Tool for Environmental and Cost Performance Improvement and Emissions Reductions in Low Impact Buildings (RAPIER)

Lead Participant: BDSP PARTNERSHIP LIMITED

Abstract

RAPIER is a modern web-based software service (prototype) delivering rapid synthesis of lifecycle cost, energy & carbon performance for ‘low impact’ building projects at the early design stages - designed by domain experts BDSP Partnership, Sweett Group & Architype together with software developers greenspaceLive. The goal is improved decision-making for the user (& their clients) by capturing early opportunities to improve value. RAPIER has a novel ‘card’ based GUI supporting optioneering, runs on the latest mobile devices (e.g. iPad) & uses templates for fast, intelligent attribution. Core models (based on international standards) provide robust results for use on projects worldwide. RAPIER supports the design process from project inception onwards (RIBA Stages A-D) and interoperability with BIM (gbXML). It will interest: developers; asset managers; architects; engineers; quantity surveyors & others. The Ecobuild 2012 dissemination event received a very positive response. Exploitation plans are advanced & a first commercial release slated for early 2013.
