Lead Participant: INSPECTION TECHNOLOGIES LTD

Abstract

What is proposed is a rapid and inexpensive non-contact technique, easily retro-fitted onto existing infrastructure and which does not require the placement of in-situ transducers, and can also provide continuous 24/7 monitoring of the condition of power-grid networks from remote distances of up to tens of kilometres away. The system will enable the continuous monitoring and detection of the presence and progression of corrosion (even when under insulation) in existing ageing infrastructure, both overhead and underground/subsea and remotely pinpoint the location of a defect to an accuracy of + 5 metresfrom connections made at the terminus of a network which may be tens or even hundreds of kilometres long.
