Innovation - Sheldrake Slate

Lead Participant: SUNSCAPE SYSTEMS LIMITED

Abstract

The principal product being developed by SunScape Systems Ltd is the Carapace Slate- a recycled, modular slate roofing system virtually indistinguishable from its natural counterpart, but available at a fraction of the cost
One of the most exciting attributes of the system is the facility to incorporate the collector aspect of a solar-thermal heating system, invisible to an outside observer once installed
A glycol-based liquid is pumped to a common outlet within a roof apex which in-turn cascades said fluid throughout the system. A heat-exchanger seamlessly transfers the captured energy to any domestic heating system to create a useful supply of hot water

Our research has suggested that the primary obstacle to a home-grown energy revolution is its visual infliction on our homes, where practicality generally supersedes our moral conscience. This comparatively low-tech approach to renewables could address a common, inhibiting quandary within the market

Environmental issues rightfully take a prominent stance on many social, economic and political agendas. Unfortunately, education on the impacts of our high-consumption lifestyles is often not enough to compromise the aesthetics of our homes.

Offering this new approach to renewables would provide SunScape with the opportunity to market our products through the cleantech industries, where the sale of the Sheldrake Slates would ultimately result in the sale of an entire roof system
