Revolutionary Multiparameter Sensor Incorporating Dissolved Oxygen, Salinity, pH and Temperature for the Aquaculture and Environmental Monitoring Industries

Abstract

The need for sustainable food sources is evident, rising populations, and increasing emissions of greenhouse gases mean alternatives to traditional farming and agricultural productions need to be found. This need is the key reason why there has been significant growth in the aquaculture industry, an industry that allows crop production in intensive yields with little environmental impact compared to conventional farming techniques. In these industries, to produce high yields efficiently and sustainably, the quality of the water needs to be routinely monitored.

The key chemical parameters for water quality monitoring are dissolved oxygen, salinity/conductivity and pH. ANB's calibration-free pH, salinity and temperature sensor is the foundation for the next-generation sensor platform. This multi-sensor is capable of accurate, calibration-free operation, with onboard quality assurance/control. It is based on innovative sensing chemistry which permits the determination of pH across the entire salinity range - from freshwater to seawater.

In this project, the development of a dissolved oxygen measurement to work alongside the calibration-free pH, salinity and temperature, as one consolidated, easy-to-deploy unit is being proposed. This multiparameter sensor will be a game-changer for the end-user resulting in new intellectual property and products for ANB Sensors. These products will ultimately supersede its current technology and drive the company into its next stage of growth to firmly become a leader in water quality monitoring.
