Neurodegeneration Initiative Initiation Stage

Abstract

The Neurodegeneration Initiative (NI), integral to the Dementia Mission outlined in the Life Sciences Vision, aims to revolutionise dementia treatment by establishing novel biomarkers, streamlining clinical trials, and harmonizing translational research with healthcare systems, addressing key challenges in drug development for dementia and neurodegenerative diseases. This five-year multimillion pound initiative is ambitious in its scope, and it aims to establish the UK as the preferred place to go to for public and private dementia clinical trials.

Briefly, MDC would set up the Initiative working under an R&D Collaborative model, to guarantee speed of action and an agile model of engagement with key stakeholders and partners. During the project, MDC will adopt a collaborative approach to establishing the initiative and creating the frameworks through which funded projects will be selected. MDC will work on the legal, operational and financial requirements needed for the transition of the initiative to its long-term structure as an independent legal entity.

MDC will lay a crucial foundation for the Dementia Mission. Concentrating on the initiation phase of the NI, MDC will engage with stakeholders to define the scientific roadmap and shape the strategic blueprint for the initiative. Through hosting multiple workshops, MDC will work to secure commitment from industry partners alongside acting in a secretariat capacity for the Scientific Advisory Board.
