Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
Technical Summary
The proposed research programme will improve the understanding of FMDV transmission in cattle, by carrying out quantitative virological studies that simulate field transmission of FMDV to naive and vaccinated animals. These parameter measurements will be incorporated into mathematical models designed to optimise emergency vaccination programmes. Local and systemic antibody and T cell- mediated immune responses will also be studied, to identify immunological correlates of protection in FMDV recovered and vaccinated cattle. Finally, we will investigate FMDV vaccine/adjuvant combinations and immunisation regimes to generate strong systemic and local immunity in mice and test promising candidates in cattle.
