PI Contribution | My work, along with those at the John Innes Centre led to the formal establishment of CEPAMs, an alliance between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the John Innes Centre, situated on three campuses: John Innes, Norwich, SIPPE, Shanghai, IGDB, Beijing. This alliance has outlived and expanded well beyond this initial partnership award |
Collaborator Contribution | The Chinese Academy of Sciences has created extensive research funds to support this alliance, allowing the recruitment of 8 joint group leaders between the John Innes Centre and CAS |
Impact | CEPAMS has been a scientific and diplomatic success story. It has: ? supported 29 excellent CEPAMS collaborative research projects between CAS researchers and those at JIC (example outputs below); ? established 8 CEPAMS laboratories in Beijing and Shanghai, led by international, world-leading scientists and employing over 80 staff and students; ? organised 6 CEPAMS symposia bringing together scientists from CEPAMS partners and international guests (including those from the developing world) ? nurtured the Sino-UK bilateral relationship providing opportunities for UK Ministers, senior officials and learned societies to engage with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Government; ? encouraged "ABC" (Africa-Britain-China) collaborations.; ? established world-class governance, management and scientific quality assurance mechanisms. |
