Description The project met its three key objectives, which were:

1. To enable knowledge exchange between UK and Swiss researchers working on cultural discourses of sustainability and responses to environmental challenges in Latin America.
2. To develop a strong partnership between the UK's Society for Latin American Studies (SLAS) and the Swiss School of Latin American Studies (SSLAS), with a view to enhancing opportunities for early career researchers in both countries.
3. To plan future collaborative activities, such as funding applications and joint publications.

These objectives were met by holding two UK-Switzerland workshops - the first, at the University of Bern in May 2023, addressed 'Languages and Practices of Sustainability'. A keynote was given by Dr Paul Merchant, PI on the project. Other presentations were given by a range of early-career researchers from the UK and Switzerland, and we also held an open discussion on further funding opportunities in the UK, Switzerland and from international funders. There were ample networking opportunities for the participants.

The second workshop was held at the University of Zurich in August 2023, on the theme of 'América del Sur / Amerindia: orígenes, diversidad cultural y transformaciones'. The programme for this workshop contained a special section following up on the themes from the first workshop. Dr Paul Merchant (PI) and Professor Thea Pitman (Co-I) also led a workshop on publishing in English-language journals for PhD students and early-career researchers.

The project's activities have thus encouraged organic networking and collaboration between early-career researchers in Latin American Studies in the UK and Switzerland, and have offered specific advice and training on research funding and publication opportunities. The project team is continuing to explore funding options for furthering this collaboration, and is planning to hold a special panel at the Society for Latin American Studies conference in the UK in 2025.
Exploitation Route As noted above, we expect that many of the participants at the two workshops will remain in contact and be able to develop future research collaborations and initiatives building on the ideas discussed at the two events. We will report on these as they develop.
