Abstract
Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
Technical Summary
With the increasing trend in bioscience research involving global analysis of gene expression, research in virus-host interaction in a number of groups at the Pirbright Institute will involve large scale analysis of viral and host transcriptome using next generation sequencing (NGS) technologies such as RNA-seq. This would need significant computational and bioinformatics input, much more than what we have. One way to address this would be through collaborations and appointing honorary visiting scientists who could work with the Pirbright staff in analysing data for joint publications.
Dr. Paolo Ribeca, is currently working as the Leader of the Algorithm Development Group at the Centro Nacional de Analisis Genomico (CNAG), Barcelona. Paolo is an experienced scientist with research interest in NGS data alignment and processing, assembly, storage and manipulation. He is already collaborating with the AVD programme in analysing the RNA-seq data from Marek’s disease virus (MDV)-transformed cell lines. His expertise will be very valuable for a number of ongoing projects with in the AVD programme, as well as for others who are planning to engage in large scale transcriptome analysis to study virus-host interactions and Immunogenomics.
The proposal here is to offer an Honorary Visiting Pirbright Investigator position to Dr. Paolo Ribeca to enable him to establish collaborations with our scientists to generate transcriptome data in virus host interactions and Immunogenomics. With increasing developments in immune response measurements using RNA-seq data of different immune cell populations, Dr. Ribeca, in collaboration with Pirbright Scientists will develop pipelines for immune responses and regulatory networks in viral disease models.
