Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
 
Description In this project we have achieved two outcomes. The first is to show that spatially resolved accoustic microscopy can identify crystallographic texture non destructvely and over much greater areas than is feasible in an electron microsce by electron backscattered diffraction. This takes texture measurement out of the lab and enables in process monitoring.

The second is to provide elastic anisotropy maps to enable better ultrasound inspection of welds.
Exploitation Route This method is now being applied within the RC NDE centre at Imperial Colege.

The acoustic ultrasound method has been looked at by companies such as Rols-Royce for inspecting material from their supply chain.
