Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.
 
Description This project enabled the first targetted UK effort in on-chip waveguide integrated single photon detectors. We carried out proof of principle studies on lithium niobate substrates, using advanced low temperature nano-optical mapping techniques to determine device uniformity.
Exploitation Route As mentioned, this early work enabled more rapid progress on follow up EPSRC projects on GaAs and silicon-on-insulator quantum photonic circuits. There is at least one international start up (Psi Quantum) aiming to commercialize quantum photonic circuits, most probably using silicon. Interestingly, a German/US consortium (Paderborn/NIST) are now revisiting the lithium niobate quantum photonic approach.

Description There are now several international start ups aiming to commericalize quantum photonic circuits e.g Psi Quantum USA and Sparrow Quantum Denmark. Our early work in this field has had a role in stimulating this commerical exploitation.
