Description We have developed methods of causing functionalised cellulose nanofibrils to interact with soluble starch to form interpenetrating networks that thicken aqueous suspensions of these components at low concentrations, and have evaluated their use in the presence of common formulation ingredients such as small alcohols, salts, surfactants and oils. We have also studied the effects of the aspect ratio of the fibrils, the magnitude and sign of their surface charge, and the presence of fillers of diff

Description Our findings have been used by our company partners to evaluate the use of functionalised cellulose nanofibrils and starches as aqueous rheology modifiers in various formulations for fast moving consumer goods. They have also evaluated modified cellulose/starch films prepared in this project as replacements for synthetic polymers in laundry capsules, however they were not found to be suitable for their applications.
