Description Our distributed cooperative Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) work is evolving into first of its kind development of pilot free communication and learned receiver architecture for ISAC.

We have designed Trustworthy AI as a service native to teleco, that integrates intelligence across RAN architectures. For example, this permits the splitting of learning across x-Apps and r-Apps to implement federated learning; placing the Machine Learning blocks across the RAN architecture autonomously for latency sensitive applications. This is supported with a suite of tools that: transform natural language end-user ideas into 6G radio and AI specifications, automatically generate open network coding (Apps) from specifications, formally verify the code comply to standards and specifications, and ensure compliant algorithms do not cause unforeseen cascade impact on network.

We presented the first benchmark for deploying GenAI on the Edge and now we are evolving that work into an Agent based architecture for future Radio access networks. This work is feeding into the AI-RAN Alliance WG1 and WG3. The work on safety aspects has received follow on funding from AISI.

Our initial work on co-existence and dynamic scheduling of the AI and RAN workload within similar GPU empowered architectures using Multi-Instance GPU (MIG) partitioning, is showcasing how a common infrastructure can support both GenAI and telco applications simultaneously. This work will be fed into WG2 of AI-RAN Alliance.

We developed task dependency aware optimal resource allocation mechanism for ultra-reliable and low-latency communication edge networks. We are developing novel energy-efficient sustainable AI-driven resource allocation techniques to address the unique challenges presented by the Edge-Fog-Cloud Continuum (EFCC) system empowered by 6G.

We have automate existing Telecoms functions considering diverse requirements from non expert people (without specific telecoms expertise). These tools are crucial to reducing barriers and reducing the costs.

We have demonstrated seamless integration and real-time synchronization of data applied to control systems using smart grid systems as an example. This work jointly optimizes latency to support power systems, while optimizing this against the current power opportunity (accounting for environment weather/costing) to ensure a more sustainable and cost-effective network. This is part of the National Digital Twin Programme (NDTP).

We have used an Explainable Adversarial Learning Framework for Physical Layer Key Generation to combat Malicious Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) generating deceptive channels to override legitimate channels to intercept information and secret keys among legitimate parties. This work is presented to ETSI with InterDigital.

Our initial work on autonomous distribution of inferencing/computational workload across the O-Cloud and MEC with the possibility of pooled resources is first of its kind. We demonstrate that this problem can be solved in an online fashion within orchestration platform.

Our work on the EE optimisation of the RAN shows promising results through exploitation of ML and AI on the key performance measures (KPMs) available in the Radio Intelligence Controller. We demonstrate how proposed algorithm can be implemented as an xApp.

We have pioneered semantically aware AI for networking, leveraging knowledge graphs (KG) and ontologies to model network entities relationships and manage contextual information. This is enabling precise root cause analysis, offering structured insights beyond traditional statistical methods, opening new opportunities for self-optimising networks, and enabling real-time predictive analytics and autonomous fault recovery.

Our Transferability framework addresses a research gap in user mobility management for next-generation wireless networks by applying deep transfer learning (TL) techniques. Specifically, we demonstrate that integrating TL with deep learning models (e.g., LSTM-based algorithm) in an O-RAN framework significantly accelerates model adaptation to dynamic new network topologies and channel conditions. This also helps with lowering the costs (data, time, energy) associated with training for the new models.

Our research on Agentic AI shows new ways of integrating GenAI on the Edge to enable new applications. This demonstrated how reasoning capabilities can be orchestrated.

We designed and practically implemented a first ever 60 GHz mmWave wireless communication and sensing testbed based on 60 GHz Dynamic Metasurface Antenna (DMA). The operating band of DMA-assisted wireless platform covers the Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band, which is license-free and readily available for indoor personal area and local area network applications. It has potential applications in Industry 4.0/5.0 and Healthcare 4.0/5.0.

We produced a RF sensing integration with RAN to teleoperate a Robot as a demonstration for Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, March 2025.

We produced an Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) demo demonstrating how 6G can transform remote healthcare (see youtube link below)
Exploitation Route We have been operational for a year, it is expected that outcomes will be taken forward in the coming years. It is expected that some of these findings will be translated to whitepapers and policy in the coming year (25-26).

Title DiffAR: adaptive conditional diffusion model for temporal-augmented human activity recognition
Description Human activity recognition (HAR) is a fundamental sensing and analysis technique that supports diverse applications, such as smart homes and healthcare. In device-free and non-intrusive HAR, WiFi channel state information (CSI) captures wireless signal variations caused by human interference without the need for video cameras or on-body sensors. However, current CSI-based HAR performance is hampered by incomplete CSI recordings due to fixed window sizes in CSI collection and human/machine errors that incur missing values in CSI. To address these issues, we propose DiffAR, a temporal-augmented HAR approach that improves HAR performance by augmenting CSI. DiffAR devises a novel Adaptive Conditional Diffusion Model (ACDM) to synthesize augmented CSI, which tackles the issue of fixed windows by forecasting and handles missing values with imputation. Compared to existing diffusion models, ACDM improves the synthesis quality by guiding progressive synthesis with step-specific conditions. DiffAR further exploits an ensemble classifier for activity recognition using both raw and augmented CSI. Extensive experiments on four public datasets show that DiffAR achieves the best synthesis quality of augmented CSI and outperforms state-of-theart CSI-based HAR methods in terms of recognition performance. The source code of DiffAR is available at https://github.com/huangshk/DiffAR.

Title WiMANS: A Benchmark Dataset for WiFi-based Multi-user Activity Sensing.
Description WiFi-based human sensing has exhibited remarkable potential to analyze user behaviors in a non-intrusive and device-free manner, benefiting applications as diverse as smart homes and healthcare. However, most previous works focus on single-user sensing, which has limited practicability in scenarios involving multiple users. Although recent studies have begun to investigate WiFi-based multi-user activity sensing, there remains a lack of benchmark datasets to facilitate reproducible and comparable research. To bridge this gap, we present WiMANS, to our knowledge, the first dataset for multi-user activity sensing based on WiFi. WiMANS contains over 9.4 hours of WiFi Channel State Information (CSI), monitoring simultaneous activities performed by multiple users in various environments. Compared to existing datasets, WiMANS not only collects the CSI of dual WiFi bands but also includes synchronized videos. We exploit WiMANS to benchmark the performance of state-of-the-art WiFi-based human sensing models and video-based models, posing new challenges and opportunities for WiFi-based multi-user identification, localization, and activity recognition. We believe that WiMANS can push the boundaries of current WiFi-based human sensing and catalyze the research on multi-user activity analysis.

Title Jammer Detection in Multi-hop IoT Networks
Description The presence of a jammer in an IoT network severely degrades all communication efforts between adjacent wireless devices. The situation is getting worse due to retransmission attempts made by affected devices. Therefore, jammers must be detected or localized quickly to activate a series of corrective countermeasures so as to ensure the robust operation of the IoT network. This paper proposes a novel metric called the number of jammed slots (NJS). It can detect and localize both reactive and proactive jammers that follow arbitrary jamming attack patterns. NJS is applicable to all communication paradigms such as unicast, broadcast, and multicast. In NJS, the wireless medium status is monitored by IoT devices and summarized reports are sent to a central node. Then, the central node determines the jamming duration, the affected nodes, and the approximate location of the jammer(s).
