Description | Energy usage of client systems can be impacted by software components. Changing system configuration, including how network protocols are used, can be used to reduce client-side energy usage. As client systems (user devices) out number server-systems and datacentres by several orders of magnitude, even small savings at each client scale to significant energy savings when considered for large populations of users. We have produced estimates of possible savings (energy, monetary and carbon emissions) for the UK and India. |
Exploitation Route | Can be used to build energy-aware, energy-adaptive applications and systems. Can be used to build energy usage into systems management policy for the future. |
