Description The fellowship enabled four research streams to be pursued:

Processes of digital content creation. Digital content creators have unsurpassed power over their product, because of the speed and manipulability of their tools. They can create and destroy worlds with a sequence of mouse clicks. Yet they are increasingly involved in large interdependent project teams and their creative work may easily compromise the product. The research has aimed at understanding how the goals of creativity and management are achieved in sectors such as video games development, digital advertising and animation. The research found increasing adoption of iterative, high-attention methods such as Agile, Scrum and Extreme Programming, which are consistent with organisational theories of improvisation and becoming. Another important influence on innovation processes is genre: video games studios typically specialise in a specific product category that constrains front-end creative thinking. Practices and policies fit the genre as a brand and identity.

Creative industries. The research outlined the key themes for a management research agenda for the creative and cultural industries. Consultations with over 75 practitioners, and a literature review revealed the following themes.
• Integration and disintegration:
• Disruptive innovation and business models:
• Creative processes and organisation:
• Management capabilities and skills:
• Small firms and growth:

Learning games. The fellowship established a learning network of practitioners and academics developing and studying video games for non-entertainment purposes, such as for learning or work processes.

Innovation policy. The fellowship enabled research advising innovation policy-makers on user innovation and political discourse on innovation.
Exploitation Route The outputs and activities on management in creative industries research helped to strengthen the topic as a field of study, through the conference tracks, journal special issues and the Oxford Handbook of Creative Industries. The work on scoping the research agenda for creative industries has informed AHRC, ESRC, EPSRC and TSB/Innovate UK on research funding policy and many programmes, such as the ongoing 'Fuse' series of projects and by extension the current Industrial Strategy on creative industries R&D.
