CCCEP - Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy: Legacy Centre Status

Lead Research Organisation: London School of Economics and Political Science
Department Name: Grantham Research Inst on Climate Change

Abstract

This Legacy plan proposes to convert the website to reflect this transition and a suite of Knowledge Exchange activities relating to work conducted during CCCEP Phase II and Transition Phase. Several opportunities have emerged to develop further engagement activities to promote impact that arises from earlier CCCEP research (activities 2-4) and to take advantage of some newer ideas (5 and 6) arising from CCCEP and the linked ESRC-funded programme Place-based Climate Action Network (PCAN). We include a Flexible Fund to allow opportunistic response to policy windows / extreme events and enable impact-oriented support for still to be completed research papers.

Management will continue through a scaled back Management Group (PI, two Co-Is and project leads while active) with biannual meetings to monitor progress and make decisions relating to a proposed small Flexible Fund.

The specific activities are:

1) CCCEP website Legacy status and maintenance
2) Review and update of Summary Roadmap Maker
3) Integration of research findings in training local government extension officers
4) Engagement and knowledge exchange with researchers and users on green skills and jobs
5) Engagement with local authorities on adaptation impact
6) Communicating positive stories of climate action
7) Flexible Fund (Year 2-4)

The activities comprise a suite of review/synthesis/scoping interviews/tool refinement in support of extensive engagement through CCCEP website, workshops, policy briefs, training and an animation. The anticipated outcomes are as follows;

1) The CCCEP website will ensure longevity in accessibility and visibility of all CCCEP outputs and profiling opportunity for Legacy activities.

2) The revised Summary Roadmap Maker will identify the areas of research and action that local stakeholders can prioritise and give them the evidence to support requests for resources to take that action. Completing this project would contribute to capacity strengthening through allowing more people to create summary roadmaps for their areas.

3) Integration of research findings in training local government extension officers will strengthen capacity of local government extension officers and community-based trainers in Tanga region of Tanzania and support more inclusive and equitable distribution of project benefits among the most vulnerable to climate change in Tanga region.

4) Engagement and knowledge exchange with researchers and users on green skills and jobs will enhance CCCEP's legacy by providing a route for more impact, further funding and research in the area around green jobs, and the impact of net zero on workers, which is likely to become increasingly important in the coming years.

5) Engagement with local authorities on adaptation impact will raise awareness and identify practical steps towards adaptation in local authorities in the UK.

6) Communicating positive stories of climate action will raise awareness and make a positive contribution to enabling conditions for addressing climate change.

7) The flexible fund will allow us to capitalise on opportunities as they arise to further promote CCCEP outputs and engage with stakeholders to ensure effective uptake of insights.
