AiKNIT - Programmable Wearable Devices for the Treatment of Musculoskeletal Disorders

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Chemical Engineering

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders affect the bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues, causing pain and limitations in movement. Conditions like arthritis, back pain, and sports injuries can significantly impact a person's quality of life. However, the advent of programmable wearable devices opens up exciting possibilities for managing and even overcoming these challenges. This project is focused on the aim to develop smart material systems with intelligent behaviour and capabilities for the application in wearable devices (such as knee braces or other lower limb applications) that help treat arthritis conditions and other musculoskeletal disorders more efficiently.
