The Impact of ambient air pollution on infectious disease outcomes in West Africa

Abstract

The sites will contribute to real-time capture of baseline data on air pollution. This data can be shared
with policy makers for decision making as well as international institutions. The baseline data will also
be available on our shared West Africa Health Database for further analysis by both internal/external
collaborators.

Technical Summary

1. Consolidate the established network among West African Scientists.
2. Set-up a continuous air quality monitoring system at selected sentinel sites in 6 West African
countries.
3. Establish West Africa-specific longitudinal studies of the impact of ambient air pollution on
infectious disease health outcomes such as COVID-19, meningitis, and malaria at major
health centres in West Africa
