Abstract

Summary of Objectives of fellowship: 1. Through work that Maggie has already conducted she is often approached to attend meetings and group activities as a role model, to talk about her work and her inspirations as a space scientist (see attaches list of collaborations). With further fellowship funding will enable Maggie to respond to even more of these requests. 2. Maggie has been identified as one of the preferred scientific space experts for BBC Breakfast and News24, she would use some of the time available from the fellowship grant to continue this work. 3. To actively pursue further science television and radio outputs. (See list of Media outlets to date). 4. To research and develop of new programs concepts for International Year of Astronomy. Discussions have already taken place with production companies and commissioners in this area who have expressed strong interest in Maggie's ideas. (See e-mail from Teachers TV). 5. With the successful production of 'Space in the UK' this DVD has been reviewed by a numbers of scientists and production companies working in the field. The DVD is now being successfully distributed. 'The Voice' newspaper (a paper dedicated to the needs of BME groups in the major cities of the UK, distribution 50,000), have identified the DVD as something that they are keen to distribute through their paper. Discussions are underway to make a similar DVD of the filming done in the first part of the fellowship on Cosmic Safari and to distribute this in a similar manner for IYA.
