Abstract
Doctoral Training Partnerships: a range of postgraduate training is funded by the Research Councils. For information on current funding routes, see the common terminology at https://www.ukri.org/apply-for-funding/how-we-fund-studentships/. Training grants may be to one organisation or to a consortia of research organisations. This portal will show the lead organisation only.

Description | PhD projects are approaching completion concerned with: simulating the evolution of the chemical elements in the Universe; understanding radio evidence of star formation in dwarf galaxies; measuring proper motions (positional changes) in the near-infrared to look for nearby extreme low-mass/failed stars; modelling the polarisation of starlight by dust disks around young stars |
Exploitation Route | Through publications and further exploitation of the results by the worldwide astronomical community. (Too soon to comment further) |
Sectors | Education Culture Heritage Museums and Collections |
Description | So far - through outreach by the students in training taking roles in the astronomy open evenings and group visits at Bayfordbury Observatory. |

Form Of Engagement Activity | Participation in an activity, workshop or similar |
Part Of Official Scheme? | No |
Type Of Presentation | Workshop Facilitator |
Geographic Reach | Local |
Primary Audience | Public/other audiences |
Results and Impact | Bayfordbury open evenings are held 6x a year and are usually attended by 300+ members of the public, of all ages. We entertain them with talks, a planetarium, the chance to look through our telescopes, and hands-on activities. We host a website, and have participated in BBC outreach events. We are known in the area through these events, and get asked from time to time by local radio for interviews touching on astronomy news. |
