Holography and its applications: travel grant under new applicants scheme

Abstract
The pre-approved grant by the PPGP panel will fund 6600 pounds of travel to the two investigators, who are new faculty members at the University of Southampton.
Planned Impact
The impact of this research could in the long run lead to novel understanding of materials such as superconductors and a new paradigm for cosmology and gravity.

Towards a general fluid/gravity correspondence

| Description | The main objective of the work funded by this grant was to further develop the field of holographic dualities, including foundational issues and applications. The holographic principle is believed to be a key in understanding how to reconcile the theory of General Relativity and quantum mechanics. During the period of this grant, we obtain several important results. On the foundational side, the AdS/Ricci-flat correspondence was discovered. This is the first step in extend the holographic methods to more general space times. On the applications front, we further developed the use of these methods in cosmology and we provided a holographic modelling of non-relativistic quantum critical points, which may be relevant for modelling strongly interacting condensed matter systems such as high temperature superconductors. |
| Exploitation Route | The nature of these findings is theoretical. Our results are already used by other researchers in this field of research. |
