Another Way of Seeing - Contemporary Art responds to Planetary Science

Lead Research Organisation: University College London
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

This project will create an interdisciplinary event where planetary science is used to inspire the making and exhibiting of art work. The aim is to create a dialogue between artists and scientists. The artists will create artwork which will be exhibited in September 2013, and will inform as wide an audience as possible about planetary research.

Planned Impact

This conference is expected to attract a large number of people, scientists, accompanying persons, and also members of the public (800+). For example, it will be hosting a film night in the Bloomsbury on the Tuesday, and there will be other outreach events. Thus it is a fantastic opportunity to reach a large number of people. In addition there will be a whole other range of people attracted through the collaboration with the Slade and University of the Arts. Interaction with this audience will communicate the aims of the project, and through this provide opportunities for outreach.

Social media: the EPSC2013 twitter page is being run by Dr Caitriona Jackman, who is an advisor for this project. Through this, and twitter and blog pages of the artists, it will be possible to communicate with interested groups.

Photographs and a description of the project will be used to document the exhibition and will be shown on the artists individual websites.
