Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Farooq M (2020) Absolute Magnetometry with He 3 in Physical Review Letters

Description This project investigated 3He magnetometry as a technique to provide a magnetic field calibration reference for the Muon g-2 experiment. We produced a design and wrote a internal note to allow other members of the collaboration to take this forwards. The project has now been finished by our collaborators. The results of this investigation formed part of the experiment TDR; and led to a PhD thesis at a collaborating institution and a paper in Physical Review Letters. The resulting instrument was used to cross-calibrate the magnetometers for the new Muon g-2 experiment.
Exploitation Route Our design for a 3He magnetometer for g-2 has been further developed by our US collaborators and used for magnetometer calibration as part of the measurement of the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of the muon. This technology may have further applications in industry.
