The study of elementary particle physics and their interactions - additonal capital equipment CMS

Lead Research Organisation: Imperial College London
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

To provide additional state of the art instrumentation to monitor the beam conditions and instantaneous radiation levels in CMS to protect the sensitive tracking detectors.

To provide part of the required readout system to evaluate options for CMS Forward Calorimetry at the HL-LHC.

Planned Impact

The deeper understanding of phenomena to be studied at the LHC will have repercussions for commercial manufacturers, the general public, and policy makers.

Description The capital equipment was used to provide instrumentation used in beam tests which contributed to the Technical Design Report for the The Phase-2 Upgrade
of the CMS endcap calorimeter CERN-LHCC-2017-023, CMS-TDR-019 9 April 2018 and other publications by the CMS collaboration at conferences.
Exploitation Route The design studies should be useful to those who are building the new detector
