High Luminosity LHC : UK (HL-LHC-UK)

Lead Research Organisation: Lancaster University
Department Name: Engineering

Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Description This project developed a prototype crab cavity systems for the LHC. Lancasters role was in the design of the higher order mode couplers and LLRF system, and to perform beam impedance measurements on the SPS accelerator at CERN. This was the world first test of a crab cavity on a hadron beam and was a major success
Exploitation Route Similar crab cavities are being considered for most future colliders including ILC, CLIC, FCC and FCC.
