Description | The AWAKE collaboration set out to do a proof-of-principle experiment to demonstrate proton-driven plasma wakefield acceleration. This acceleration scheme could lead to new accelerator technology that shortens the length of future accelerators. During the grant, we showed that we could accelerate electrons to high energies over relatively short distances using this scheme and so confirming the principle of this scheme. These results were published in Nature. |
Exploitation Route | The outcomes led to the next stage of AWAKE, Run 2, which is currently being pursued. |
