IRIS-DA20-CAM-01: IRIS Digital Asset 1 for FY2020 for Cambridge University

Abstract
This grant award is for the purchase of eInfrastructure (CPU, storage, networking, digital assets ) as part of the IRIS consortium. IRIS supports STFC Science Projects, including the National Facilities and Science Programmes. Refer to the Business Case for eInfrastructure for the exploitation of the UK National Facilities and STFC Frontier Science programme.
This grant award is for the creation of an IRIS Digital Asset. The research here is a collaboration between IRIS, DiRAC, the SKA, the Cambridge University Research Computing Service and StackHPC Ltd to develope innovative Scientific Computing capability into an Open Source Openstack distribution called Scientific OpenStack. This software development activity in FY 2020-2021 builds on a long term collaboration where StackHPC have been working with the named academic partners. A full Scientific Openstack proposal has been submitted to the IRIS project board by StacKHPC and accepted, this has been converted into a statement of work by StackHPC to be contracted between Cambridge and StackHPC, with the work plan to be completed by the end of FY2020-2021. StackHPC are a vital element of the research collaboration with a unique working knowledge of a very complex and bespoke software environment required by the project.
