Abstract

Abstracts are not currently available in GtR for all funded research. This is normally because the abstract was not required at the time of proposal submission, but may be because it included sensitive information such as personal details.

Title Raman spectroscopy as a tool for total irradiation damage assessment in target graphite
Description A method was developed to evaluate the total amount of damage introduced in target graphite as a result of proton beam bombardment. This utilzed the correlation between decrease in crystallite size and increase in the bandwidth of a single peak of the graphite Raman spectrum.
Type Of Material Data analysis technique
Year Produced 2023
Provided To Others? Yes
Impact This work has been written up and submitted to a journal paper currently under review. It is estimated to be available to the community within this year.

Primary Audience Undergraduate students
Results and Impact The event was organised by a PhD student in Chemistry who is the CEO of Creative Tuition Collective (https://www.creativetuitioncollective.com/) (www.linkedin.com/in/lara-lalemi). In short, they provide young people from lower income backgrounds with free STEM tuition and mental well-being support to improve their academic abilities and self-confidence. Part of their mission in creating Creative Tuition is to showcase how science and maths is a joy to be a part of and a worthwhile career path for anyone, no matter what barriers they do or do not face. They wanted to make a video of local prominent women across the university to showcase in a school assembly in celebration of International Women in STEM Day. I took part in this.
The video did not focus on the fact that I am a woman, but the focus was to show students brilliant scientists and mathematicians who happen to be women.
