| Title | A test stand for transmission line characterisation |
| Description | Transmission lines needed for the next generation Dark Matter search experiments have to be characterised using Vector Network Analyser (VNA) and Time-Domain Reflection measurements. A test stand which includes interconnecting boards, VNA, fast pulse generator has been prepared and used for the characterisation. |
| Type Of Material | Improvements to research infrastructure |
| Year Produced | 2022 |
| Provided To Others? | No |
| Impact | The test stand has been used to characterise transmission lines and inform future directions for the project. |
| Title | Simulation of transmission lines |
| Description | The Ansys HFSS package for high frequency signals has been used to simulate the transmission lines. |
| Type Of Material | Improvements to research infrastructure |
| Year Produced | 2022 |
| Provided To Others? | No |
| Impact | The simulation of transmission lines has been used to inform the selection of suitable transmission lines and future direction for the project. |
| Title | Usage of water based liquid scintillator (WbLS) |
| Description | The WbLS is a promising material which can be used for neutrino and neutron detection if used with Gd dopant. A simulation has been performed where the WbLS has been used in the Outer Detector of the next generation dark matter search experiment. A synergy with the BUTTON experiment at Boulby allowed establishing close links with the BUTTON collaboration which will study the WbLS. The studies will be continued in the XLZD pre-construction project. |
| Type Of Material | Improvements to research infrastructure |
| Year Produced | 2024 |
| Provided To Others? | Yes |
| Impact | The XLZD pre-construction project will use this study and simulation as a starting point. |
