Advances in simulation and reconstruction for Hyper-Kamiokande
Description | The Hyper-Kamiokande experiment is a new experiment that is being designed and built to study neutrino flavour oscillations, and to shine light on the question of why matter dominates over anti-matter in the universe. The experiment involved a huge tank of water which is used as a target for a neutrino beam that is produced on the East coast of Japan. The tank is instrumented with photosensors to see Cherenkov light produced when neutrinos interact in the water. These sensors need to be precisely calibrated. The finding from this aware is a design for a set of light injectors that will be installed in Hyper-Kamiokande in order to provide this calibration. |
Exploitation Route | The outcomes will be taken forward in the next Hyper-Kamiokande grant to build the detector. The light injector designs are also being used in other experiments (e.g. DarkSide). |
