Integrated GaN-on-Diamond materials for high power electronics

Abstract

Diamond's high thermal conductivity is of great benefit for enabling improved performance of electronic and opto-electronic devices. However the interface of diamond with e.g. GaN and other semiconductors needs to be managed, such as in terms of CTE mismatch and its mechanical stability; this requires use of new characterization techniques such as nano-intentation and AFM mechanical (as well as thermal testing). This project will develop new integration concepts which will be combined with modelling.
