Rethinking Intimacy: Remote Sensing, Distributed Intelligence and the Choreographic Encounter

Lead Research Organisation: Royal College of Art
Department Name: School of Art and Humanities

Abstract

With the severe loss of intimacy and proliferation of Big Data, this practice-led research provokes extra-sensorial logics that can create new forms of tactility. By investigating light as a space-forming medium rather than merely information-carrier, this research combines choreography and remote sensing technology for realtime coding purposes to disrupt conventional logics of cybernetics. Although the occupation with the intangible physics of light often guarantees visibility, this research aims to push the monocular notion of 'seeing' into extra-sensorial, hybrid fields of 'engaging'.
