Assessing Ethnic Media's Impact on British Asian Communities in the Midlands

Lead Research Organisation: De Montfort University
Department Name: LMS - Leicester Media School

Abstract

This project assesses the impact that 'ethnic media' had on British Asian Communities in the Midlands at the end of the twentieth and beginning of the twenty-first centuries. 'Ethnic media,' relates to media outlets which had a large South Asian audience base, hence I will use the works held at De Montfort University's (DMU) Anita Anand Archive. Anand was the head of News and Current affairs at Zee TV from 1995-2004, a Hindi-language TV channel that reached South Asians worldwide. I aim to use content analysis and reception theory in my assessments of Anand's shows, to identify the impact they had on their audience base.
