Abstract
This cultural studies doctoral research examines home-making processes among refugees in the UK. I use the term 'refugee' to refer to those who have sought or have been granted asylum. Focusing on Stoke-on-Trent, a post-industrial city and major asylum dispersal area, this study seeks to explore the different ways refugees transform their living spaces(s) into place(s) of sanctuary drawing on literary and ethnographic accounts.
