Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow

Abstract

The proposed project will examine emergent discourse practices between expert advisers and local communities in the Machinga district of Malawi as they work together to develop resilience to climate-change. Focusing on capacity-building for reforestation and climate-friendly agricultural practices, it will explore how expert advisers from the Catholic Development Commission (CADECOM) and local community members project risk and resilience in their respective discourses and consider the social and linguistic factors that influence how the two groups (fail to) learn from each other and reach agreement on the causes of climate change and its relation to local practices, past and future.
