Abstract
This research investigates how photojournalistic practices enabled the social absorption of democratic values in India during the first two decades after its independence from colonial rule (1947), focusing on the nonconformist photojournalist Sharampal Paul, whose professional influence is said to have both promoted this process and reshaped local approaches to news photography.
