Divergent Mentalization: Developing a neurodivergent performance practice

Lead Research Organisation: University of Glasgow
Department Name: College of Arts

Abstract

This practice-research project will employ performance to explore psychological processes associated with autism drawing on my own experiences as an autistic individual. The project will develop a neurodivergent performance practice that seeks to find a physical way of representing the cerebral experiences of autism through physical performance. The practice element of this research will be autobiographical and will use interdisciplinary research from theatre studies and psychology to physically represent processes such as flow states, masking, emotional dysregulation, and sensory issues. This research seeks to further understanding of neurodivergent thinking and to share and disseminate that understanding.
