Abstract

Reimagining Place: A Creative and Critical Intervention Exploring the Past, Present and Future of Rivers.
How can creative engagement with rivers enrich our understanding of 'Place' as intangible heritage ?
Aim: This research will engage with theoretical and practical studies to explore possibilities of experiencing Place as Intangible Heritage. Cohesive creative workshops involving residents will be used to measure film publication and real-life engagement to explore the social and cultural lives of rivers through personal lived experience. Using phenomenological research, creative film publication, and audience engagement with river using imagination, I aim to contribute new knowledge to Place based research. Not only measuring individual experience and collective experience, but significantly examining inclusion and ways to engage a diverse audience with Place as Intangible Heritage.
Underpinning questions and ideas in relation to this research:
How can creative archival engagement with historical events enrich our understanding of River Irk Valley as intangible heritage?
How can social history and creative practice intersect and create a shared experience of place?
How can archive interventions and filmmaking processes be used to identify regenerative developments surrounding these rivers, and can such planning inform present and future planning?
Do socio-economic structures inform evolution of spaces we inhabit?
I am interested in identifying ways modern imagined landscapes of the past inform and influence the development of city planning in relation to ICH, through active public discourse and critical-creative reflection. This research will discover itself through the act of retelling historical events and examining ways people can understand their own lives in relation to Rivers as intangible heritage.
