This chapter aims to contribute to fill this gap in our understanding of routinesÕ evolution and performance. In the quest to unravel routinesÕ internal dynamics I focus on artefactual representations of routines and, specifically, on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and associated rules which I use as a starting point for my analysis of routines microdynamics.
