We show that HyPer, a yellow fluorescent protein can be successfully expressed in plant chloroplasts and used to report changes in hydrogen peroxide concentration. In this case a high light treatment increased hydrogen peroxide. The work shows that HyPer is functional in plants and can be used to elucidate signalling mechanisms associated with environmental stress responses.
