Recent policy interest by the current and previous UK Governments culminated in a Ôsocial mobility strategyÕ in April 2011 (HM Government 2011). In 2009, a cross-national study of the intergenerational transmission of advantage under the auspices of the Russell Sage Foundation commenced.
