A Wireless Solar Powered Traffic Monitoring System.

Abstract
AptCore are specialists in low power radar and image processing technologies, and are currently developing a solar powered wireless traffic monitor unit, based on AptCore's patented radar technology. The unit will be powered by a small solar panel and transmit its captured data across the mobile network. Traffic monitoring more usually employs inductive loops embedded in the road, but these are costly to maintain and require wired infrastructure. Radar based traffic monitoring systems will greatly reduce the lifetime system cost of traffic monitoring systems, and a completely wireless, solar powered unit will enable the deployment of systems in areas having little or no infrastructure, thereby creating new possibilities for the roll out of traffic sensors more widely across the road network, and in emerging economies. There is therefore a very strong market opportunity for this technology within the UK, Europe and internationally.
