Abstract
My project focuses on uncovering the effects of structural change on long-run growth in both advanced and developing countries. My research questions are:
What are the drivers of services productivity growth in developing countries? What can countries do to improve their prospects against the backdrop of falling importance of the manufacturing sector (i.e. premature deindustrialization)?
Why is services productivity growth typically slower than manufacturing productivity growth? What are the implications of structural changes in the nature of R&D activity on long-run productivity growth? Does this have any bearing on the decline in interest rates observed in advanced economies over the past few decades?
What drives human capital differences between poor and rich countries? What mechanisms underpin the link between human capital and productivity? What policies can be introduced in order to close gaps in human capital differences across countries?
