Abstract
As of 2015, more than two million people in the UK are living with sight loss. Sight loss can affect people of all ages where macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathies are two of the leading causes of sight loss in the UK. Sight loss of any cause can have a major impact on quality of life, particularly in the elderly and in children. This project aims to research and develop a novel image processing technology to enhance diagnosis of macular and retinal diseases. Such enhanced diagnoses will prevent unnecessary or overly delayed eye surgery and also help doctors in providing appropriate medical and surgical treatments for sight loss. Current software systems for ophthalmology can be a major bottleneck to correct and efficient diagnosis. In fact, much of the work is still done manually by your ophthalmologist, a time consuming and costly business. Intogral’s technology offers the potential of automated, robust and easy to use software that is more reliable, accurate and faster that any currently available system with associated cost benefits. The research involved in this project focuses on applying state-of-the-art computer science to deliver an automated, yet interactive, diagnostic measurement software suite, that will enhance the ability of your ophthalmologist to diagnose and measure defects of the macular and retina. The research in this project is focussed on state-of-the-art computer science to deliver an interactive diagnostic and measurement software suite that will enhance the ability of your ophthalmologist to diagnose and measure defects of the macular and retina.
