Long Fibre Thermoplastic Moulding Compounds with Reduced Environmental Impact: Eco-LFT
Lead Participant:
NETCOMPOSITES LIMITED
Abstract
The Eco-LFT project will significantly reduce the weight and environmental impact of the plastic moulding compounds used to make critical car parts such as front-end modules, tailgates and door components. These parts are currently made with glass fibres which are relatively heavy and derived from non-renewable resources, and this project will develop new materials using natural flax fibres. These materials will reduce the environmental impact of the vehicle parts as they are derived from crop sources and improve fuel economy by reducing vehicle weight.
