The LHC as an electroweak boson collider: A novel laboratory for dark matter, the origin of neutrino mass and other new electroweak phenomena

Abstract
Use new techniques to search for and measure dark matter and the mechanism for the origin of neutrino mass at the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. There is much better sensitivity to dark matter using these techniques than any existing approach and it is completely unexplored experimentally. If dark matter preferentially couples to longitudinally-polarised vector bosons, this will actually be the only way to discover dark matter at the LHC. The project will aim to develop these ideas to improve what can be done, as well as exploring the sensitivity of the LHC to these mechanisms. It will involve collaborating with theorists and performing technical work on ATLAS.
