Quantifying redox metabolism in the plant metabolic network

Lead Research Organisation: University of Oxford
Department Name: Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP

Abstract

This project aims to quantify redox metabolism in plants. Redox metabolism describes a network of reactions which provide energy for cells to grow and to protect them from stress. Our current understanding comes from looking at how carbon atoms flow around metabolic networks. However, redox metabolism is not necessarily associated with the flow of carbon so new methods must be applied to understand the system. A more complete picture of redox metabolism can inform how plants could be modified for biotechnological objectives such as increased yield or improved stress tolerance.
