Tailored Graphene and 2D Materials for Incorporation into Polymer Composites and Pastes
Lead Research Organisation:

Department Name: Engineering
Abstract
The continued growth and pace of electronics and the technologies, devices and products that it enables is predicated to a large degree on the downsizing of the size of the microelectronic and microelectromechanical systems in use today.
One challenge in continuing this trend of down-scaling is the thermal dissipation of the heat generated by these circuits increases exponentially as the density of micro circuitry increases.
Graphene and related 2D materials boast an impressive array of thermal and electrical (and more) properties such that they are theoretically ideal for use in thermal dissipation in microelectronics and MEMS.
This project aims to develop characterise and investigate such 2D materials for such applications. This would help pave the way to significantly increased micro device performance and hence is of scientific interest and commercial/industrial potential.
Relevant EPSRC research areas:
Graphene and carbon nanotechnology
Materials engineering composites
